About a month ago Kim and I went ring shopping. To two stores. She didn't tell me which ring she wanted but she gave me an idea of what she wanted and what she didn't want in a ring. So after the two stores, that was all the input I got. For the next month, I searched stores in the mall, around town and online looking for the ring. I actually had the top three picked out and I realized I hadn't checked out a place which was on my way to school every day. So I get off work early stop in there on Thursday night and browse around. I spent about 45 minutes looking at rings and then saw one that I thought was PERFECT. All the others that I had looked at I had to get used to and I worried that she wouldn't like it. This one I loved at first sight. I bought the ring and they said it would be ready Friday night. I thought that was OK since I would be out of town with Kim for the long weekend and for Valentines Day.
While I was gone, I got a voicemail saying that something was up with the stone and they had to cut it. Since I was with either Kim or other people literally the ENTIRE weekend, I couldn't call them and tell them to go ahead and do it. Instead of doing it, they waited for me to call them back. I picked up the ring on Wednesday and it looked awesome. That night I stayed up till about 2:00 taking pictures of it with my camera.
Friday came and it was probably the longest day of my life. In the morning, I went and picked up my friends Curtis and Anna, who are dating. I took them up to my brother's place and we started setting everything up and cleaning up a bit. We put lights up, set the table, swept, mopped, vacuumed and brought in some music. After I had dropped them off, I went and picked up some flowers and then went into work. The entire time I was at work, I wanted to go and finish getting ready. I was texting people and setting things up.
On my way home, I stopped by my buddy Dave's place in Orem and picked up his LoveSac so that we would have a place to sit after dinner. I actually had to borrow his X Terra to get it over there because it wouldn't fit in my tiny little Civic. I went and picked up Curtis and Anna again because they were going to cook and serve us dinner. Curtis worked at a nice Italian place here in Provo called Gloria's Little Italy, so he cooked some bomb Italian food. We got to my brother's place and finished setting up and Curtis started cooking. I was running late so I called Kim as I was leaving and told her I was on my way.
When I got there, I took her out to the car, which was still the X Terra (I hadn't had time to return it yet! Dave actually let me borrow it the entire night! Freakin stud...) and blindfolded her. I took her up to my brothers place, which is where we had our first kiss. She hadn't been there in a while, but just to be sure she was ABSOLUTELY lost, I told her that we were headed to Orem and took a different way than I have ever gone. I actually almost got lost on the way. When we got there, she asked if she could take it off and I said no, but instead came around and opened her door and walked her over to under the tree where we had our first kiss. I asked her if she had any idea where we were, but she said that other than outside, she had no clue.
I told her to take off her blindfold and look around. She realized immediately that we were at my brothers place. I forget what else I said, but I remember making sure that she knew we were where we had our first kiss. Once she knew that, I knelt down and asked her to marry me. After she said yes and as I was putting the ring on, I thought it was too small! I didn't think it was going to go on but it did.
I took her down to the basement where the table was set with the candle and flowers. We had an AMAZING dinner, all to ourselves with music playing in the background. We were able to be alone, which is what I wanted and I knew she wanted.
I don't ever remember being so happy in my life. The entire night, I just kept looking at Kim and asking myself how did I get so lucky to be able to marry my best friend, who also happens to be the most amazing and beautiful woman known to man? I couldn't stop smiling and I've hardly stopped smiling since. I keep telling myself and saying, this is really gonna happen! I get to marry this woman! We're both stoked!
And yes, I really think I am the luckiest man alive...
