My Rant

I hang out on FaceBook a lot. I have friends from literelly all over the U.S. with different views and opinions. I have a few friends in Europe, Mexico and a bunch in Argentina (I mean people born and raised there, not visiting). I see a lot of different opinions posted on FaceBook. This is my rant on the ones about Immigration.

I've wanted to post this one for a while. The thing that prompted it is that the LDS church finally put out a statement on the immigration issue. The ONE thing I cannot stand on my friends status is the intolerance and hate directed towards a people. For the most part, I am totally for securing the borders. But let's take a look at the people crossing the borders.

Most people are coming to better their lives. They live in poverty. Where a paved street, running water and working sewer is literally a dream to them. They come from houses that we wouldn't even call a shack. They come to perform tasks and jobs that not even a high school student would want to do - for the most part, the most honest work available in the U.S... farmwork. And while they're doing the work that we would hate to do, they're doing it for TONS less than we would even THINK about doing. All to better their lives.

Now, I may be generalizing, and I realize that, but a face is needed to this problem. The problem is NOT people trying to improve the lives of themselves and their families and children. The problem is in politics, as always. Those of you who are reading this, ESPECIALLY those of you who are LDS (and I know a few of you who even served in foreign countries where people try to make it to the U.S.), I hope you keep yourself focused on the problem. The one part of the statement put out by the LDS church is where they state the biggest problem (and at the same time part of the solution):
What to do with the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants now residing in various states within the United States is the biggest challenge in the immigration debate.  The bedrock moral issue for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is how we treat each other as children of God.

...The Church supports an approach where undocumented immigrants are allowed to square themselves with the law and continue to work without this necessarily leading to citizenship.

In furtherance of needed immigration reform in the United States, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supports a balanced and civil approach to a challenging problem, fully consistent with its tradition of compassion, its reverence for family, and its commitment to law.

This should be the stance of any person who believes in God. These are people that are trying to improve their lives. Kicking them out of the country is NOT the solution. For logistical reasons, that would be much to costly, difficult and time consuming. On the spiritual standpoint, what would you do with the children that were born here in the US? They have citizenship here; they've been raised here, go to college here and SOME don't even know the language that their parents are from (I know quite a few!). You would be destroying a family if we were to do that. No, kicking the undocumented people out is not the solution.

So I submit to you all, God believing and not... what is a good solution?
